LAFAYETTE -- The investigation into a Thursday motorcycle-truck crash that killed a Bainbridge man is continuing. Tippecanoe Sheriff's Office Deputy Chuck Shumard said it is still not known if Jerry Hilburn, 59, who was driving the motorcycle and died in the accident, was wearing helmet, and that results of drug and alcohol tests are still pending...

BAINBRIDGE -- The Bainbridge Christian Church has 150 reasons to celebrate this weekend. GREENCASTLE -- Jan. 1 will bring big changes to the public defender program in Putnam County. Earlier this week, the budget the Putnam County Commissioners finalized and sent to the Indiana State Board of Accounts contained major cuts to the program -- so major that public defenders will no longer have office space at the courthouse, will no longer be offered health insurance as incentive to be part of the program and will no longer be provided with support staff...

Mary Smith, 95, Plainfield, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 at the Plainfield Health Care Center. She was born May 1, 1914 in Warren County, Ky. and was the daughter of the late Ottie and Hattie Long White. She was married to Harvey D. Smith and he preceded her in death...

James Carl "Twigger" Twigg, 69, Greencastle, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 at his residence. He was born March 13, 1940 in Putnam County to Durwood G. and Elsie E. Porter Twigg. Mr. Twigg was a 1959 graduate of Greencastle High School and was an active member of the class of 1959 reunion planning committee...

GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Community Foundation announced the first grant from the Putnam County Relief Fund has been awarded to the St. Andrews Episcopal Church's non-food pantry. The $1,500 grant will be used to purchase non-food items such as paper products, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items for needy families in Putnam County...
