To the Editor: On Saturday, March 12, 2011, families came together to learn about a farmer's everyday life as Ag Week in Putnam County was changed to a one-day celebration -- Ag Day. The day kicked off with the annual Ag Day Breakfast followed by a short program by state FFA officers, Megan Klotz and Janna Oxford. The awards for the Ag Day photo contest, Friend of the Farmer and the Farm Family of the Year were also given out...

Audition dates for "The Music Man," the first show of the 2011 Putnam County Playhouse season, have been announced. Director Shelly McFadden has scheduled two days of auditions. Putnam County Family Support Services needs people to paint chairs. The group intends to have community members decorate chairs and then hold a silent auction as a fundraiser. "In the 10 years that I've been here, this is the first major fundraiser that we've done," said Cari Cox, the executive director of Family Support Services. ...

A North Putnam High School senior has been named the recipient of a four-year, full-tuition scholarship as the Putnam County Community Foundation 2011 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. Megan B. Leslie Hoots of New Castle and Lee McGaughey of Bainbridge are engaged to be married on July 22. Leslie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hoots of New Castle and is a senior in dietetics at Purdue University.
