What a Morning

Posted Thursday, December 10, 2009, at 12:53 AM

I woke up to take my oldest to pre-school Wednesday morning and was once again reminded about the adventure of living in Indiana.

Most of the time when one talks of living in this good ol' Midwestern state, the word adventure isn't this first used to describe it. It's usually a case of the grass is always greener... well; you know what I'm getting at.

This morning, in the span of 15 minutes, I experienced driving sleet, gentle rain and whirling snow. Then by the time I got home it was done. Ten minutes later, the sage returned for a repeat performance.

Unlike most Hoosiers, this is what endears this state to me. Instead of complaining, we should embrace and relish the fact that we are able to experience all of the seasons how they are depicted. Our springs blossom, our summers boil, our falls are beautiful and our winters are sometimes brutal. It's Mother Nature in all her glory.

So as winter looms large on our horizon -- don't sweat it. If the snow descends and leaves roads treacherous, dig out some movies, pop some popcorn and enjoy the fact, that by the sheer luck of living in Indiana, you just got a day off work.
