Kudos to the efforts of all the Putnam County 4-Hers participating in the Indiana State Fair (ISF). While the opportunity to learn while doing in the project is of foremost importance, the recognition of achievement is certainly an added bonus to being in the 4-H program...

Beginning Aug. 29, a limited number of tickets will be available for world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma's Sept. 30 concert at DePauw University. The 2011 Greencastle Summer Music Festival at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church concludes Wednesday evening with yet another "mash-up" concert combining musical genres. For the festival's grand finale, soprano Barbara Paré and pianist John Clodfelter, both DePauw School of Music faculty members, will perform a combination of classical songs and Broadway tunes, including music from "Showboat," "White Christmas" and "State Fair."...

In an effort to give better access to the community, Greencastle Community School Corporation offices will expand their office hours for the coming school year. Beginning Tuesday, the first day of school for GCSC, the offices at all five schools and the Central Office will be open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday...

The 2011 annual Crown Street Music Festival promises to be bigger and better with popular Indianapolis-based singer Jennie DeVoe joining an already impressively talented music lineup. Despite talk of possibly moving the eighth annual music festival to another venue, like Robe-Ann Park, the event will be staged right where it has always been -- on property east of Ridpath School (at 605 Crown St.) on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4...

Tony Harmless is back together with his old friends doing what they really enjoy, and that's playing original music. Joining Tony at Parkfest Tuesday evening will be Monte Keller on guitar, Kenn Clark and piano and Doug Debard on drums. The show kicks off at 6:30 p.m. in the Bob Flanigan Bandshell at Robe-Ann Park in Greencastle.

CLOVERDALE -- Cheryl Galloway will be on the ballot in the Nov. 8 municipal elections in Cloverdale as the Republican Party candidate for clerk-treasurer. The Republican Party held a Town Convention on Saturday, Aug. 13 to select a candidate between Galloway and incumbent Cathleen Monaco. Galloway will face independent Laurie Monnett on Nov. 8.

Elizabeth Green, 98, of Coatesville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 at Hickory Creek at Sunset. Elizabeth was born March 22, 1913 in Roane County, Tenn., to James and Eliza (Crabtree) Pierce. On Oct. 5. 1940, she married Ernest "Jiggs" Green, who preceded her in death in June 1995...
