HONOLULU -- Chad Collins made a strong showing in his first event of the season on the PGA Tour. In the Sony Open, Collins fired a three-under 277 and finished tied for 25 for the event. Collins recorded 13 birdies and his 26.8 putts per round were good enough to tie him at fourth for the tournament. He earned $39,599 for his finish and currently sits at No. 45 in the FedEx Cup points...

The Greencastle wrestling team downed Speedway, 40-29 Tuesday at home. Picking up wins for the Tiger Cubs by decision were Kyle Johnson at 130, Jesse Vermillion at 145 and Jacob Wright at 189. The South Putnam boys' and girls' swim teams fell to Cascade on Tuesday night. The Eagle girls lost 113-66 while winning two events. The boys picked up four victories and lost narrowly, 90-89. For the girls, the medley relay team of Samantha Tomasino, Jessica York, Katie Sherwood and Cassie Warren led off the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, swimming a 2:17.75...

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam swim team split its meet with Speedway, with the boys winning 74-57 and the girls losing 125-40. For the boys, Kyle smith won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.04 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.91. Jeremy Ban took the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:08.32...

Putnam County Jail Three people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently: Sheriff's Dept. The Putnam County Sheriff's Department responded to several accidents recently. Timothy L. Bright, 39, Greenwood, reported that he was driving westbound on County Road 125 in a 2002 Ford Explorer when a deer jumped out in front of him and he could not avoid a collision. Damage was estimated at $1,001 to $2,500...

Chester "Chet" L. Beams, 84, Lafayette, died Tuesday at Rosewalk Village. Born in Fincastle, he was the son of Russell and Marry (Alexander) Beams. He married Mildred "Faye" Walter on Oct. 1, 1946 in Ottawa, Kansas, and she survives. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 and later worked as a special meterman for PSI for 33 years, before retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 11...

A Coatesville man was arrested this week on charges that he molested a 13-year-old girl last year. Indiana State Police arrested 31-year-old Gregory Eugene Howard on charges of child molesting and vicarious sexual gratification. According to a probable cause affidavit, Howard offered to give the girl a ride home from church but did not take the girl directly home. ...

The investigation of a former Greencastle Wal-Mart employee who pleaded guilty on Tuesday to harassing a customer of the store, via unsolicited text messages on her cell phone, grew larger this week with a second victim coming forward. Putnam County Prosecutor's Investigator Charles Bollinger told the BannerGraphic on Wednesday that since the original story about the text messages was published in Monday's newspaper, a second woman has come forward to say she too was a victim of unwanted text messages that she believes may have come from the same Wal-Mart employee.. ...

Investigators have begun to release information regarding the events surrounding the Dec. 15 death of 17-year-old Dietrich Jackson. Putnam County Coroner Thomas Miller told the BannerGraphic that though his investigation is ongoing, his office could confirm that Jackson died from pharmacological intoxication and a toxicology report indicated that Jackson had THC, Xanax, alcohol and Oxymorphone in his system when he died. ...

Linda M. Bixler-Baugh, 56, formerly of Greencastle, died Monday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born July 28, 1951, in Bloomington, Ind. She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Baugh; sister, Karen Williams of Greencastle; six children, Stephenie Crank, Duane Davis, Mark Davis II, Thomas Miles II, Brandi Crowe, and Shon Burnett. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild...

Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter has charged three adult men in connection with the death of a Greencastle High School student. Scottie B. Hoover, 23, Greencastle, has been charged with a class A felony, dealing in a controlled substance (Oxymorphone) to a child under the age of 18;a class B felony of dealing in a controlled substance (Xanax) to a child under the age of 18; and a class C felony, contributing to the delinquency of a minor causing the death of Dietrich Jackson...
