Martha June Sutherlin Goode, 79, of Greencastle died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at Autumn Glen Assisted Living. Born Sept. 10, 1929 in Putnam County, the daughter of Andrew and Ladona Langdon Sutherlin. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School. On Sept. 15, 1948 she married E. Tressman Goode, and he preceded her in death in 1983. She attended the First Baptist Church of Greencastle...

Leslie A. Cornell Jr., 68, of Greencastle died after a long illness Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 4, 1940 in St. Louis, the son of Leslie and Ella Mae Page Cornell. A graduate of Glen Cove High School in Long Island, N.Y., he attended Worchester Polytechnical Institute, where he studied electrical engineering and played on the varsity football team. ...

Billy B. Jolliff, 64, of Greencastle, formerly of Brazil, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at his residence. Born March 13, 1944 in East St. Louis, Ill., he was the son of John Wesley and Betty Tweedy Jolliff. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He married Geraldine Borkowski in October 1962, and she survives...

Michael Covert, 58, of Shelbyville died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at W.S. Major Hospital in Shelbyville. He was born May 10, 1950 in Greencastle, the son of Donald Duane Covert and Rose Marie Feld. He married Randa Yealey Covert, and she survives. Mr. Covert worked for Deflecto Inc. in Indianapolis until his illness. He was a 1968 graduate of Greencastle High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War...

The creative and artistic abilities of Putnam County students will be on display at the Putnam County Museum for the next few months. Two Greencastle men were sentenced in Putnam County Circuit Court Thursday for their roles in a June assault that severely injured another man. Cody McNew, 20, and Adam Roche, 19, both were convicted of Class C felony battery resulting in bodily injury in connection with the beating of John Sanders, 26, of Greencastle. The assault took place outside Topper's bar in Greencastle on June 5...

Over 300 participants are expected for the DePauw Bicycle Club race on Sunday, March 8 at Big Walnut Sports. This is the second year for the event that showcases the park and hopefully brings visitors to town. The race will be run on a course around and through the sports park, using the newly paved access road, CR 275 E, CR 150 S and the west park access road. Margurite A. (Simmerman) Grimes age 90 of Greencastle, went to be at peace with the Lord Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Born February 22, 1918 in Veedersburg, Indiana.. She later moved to Greencastle and was raised in the Allison Home and was a graduate of Greencastle High School "Class of 1936". She married Russell L. Grimes on July 4, 1942....

INDIANAPOLIS -- After an oustanding run to the state finals meet, Greencastle senior Jacob Wright finished his season Friday night with a 12-5 loss to Fort Wayne North Side's Aris Allen. Wright finishes his senior year with a 40-8 record. More to come later...
