North Putnam's volleyball team opened its season with a young team and a goal of focus. Unfortunately for the Cougars, they saw their first loss at home against the Panthers of Riverton Parke in five games. "We had some goals set tonight," coach Brandy Dickson said. Greencastle's cross country team opened its season on its home course at the fairgrounds and the runners proved to be more than ready to get their season under way. Greencastle High School senior Callan Taylor signed her letter of commitment on Tuesday to play basketball and attend St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute. Dalton Michael Thrush, 11, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 at home. He was born July 21, 2003 at Hendricks Regional Hospital to Mary (Legrand) and Michael Thrush of Russellville, and they survive.
