Smith verbally commits to IUPUI

Greencastle's Evan Smith has verbally committed to play soccer at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Smith had 31 assists to help Greencastle to a 17-4 record, including a semi-state appearance last season. Smith's 31 assists placed him second in the state in assists and tied for fifth in the country. He is currently the all-time assists leader at GHS entering his senior season...

Students, teachers and parents at Roachdale Elementary celebrated the last day of the school year by walking through town greeting people with an anti-drug message. Roachdale Elementary Action Choosing Teaching is part of the schools "Just say no to drugs," campaign and the REACT walk has been going on for many years. "It's a nice day to end the year," Principal Scott Spencer said. "The kids look forward to it every year. They've had a fun filled day." A small crowd watched as the students paraded through town with an escort of police cruisers, fire engines and an ambulance.

For the past two years, I've been attending monthly meetings of the Greencastle Defenders of Liberty, the local Tea Party organization. I am generally of a different political persuasion, but I am also pro-life in the broadest sense and fear that the deficit, along with climate change, is among the worst legacies that my generation will leave to our children. Thus, I enjoy both my differences and similarities with speakers and members at the meetings...

Albin Pond dam rehabilitation project slated for this summer
