Several "lucky" Central Elementary students' names will be drawn to throw a Pie in the Eye of one of 16 dedicated Central teacher or staff volunteers. The Pie in the Eye events will take place Friday at the end of the day and also, as the last happening of the Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 6 right after the auction...

On Saturday, Oct. 6, Whitestone Food Pantry will have a food distribution between 9 and 10:30 a.m. The food pantry is located at 8045 W. U.S. 36, west of New Winchester. The food distribution is geared only to needy residents in Floyd Township of Putnam County and Marion Township of Hendricks County. Recipients must provide governmental photo identification, such as a driver's license or other official photo I.D...

The 2012 Homecoming King and Queen, along with representatives from the junior, sophomore and freshman classes, will be crowned during halftime of Friday's Greencastle homecoming game. Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray is becoming a veteran on the weekly WFIU radio program "Ask the Mayor" but her Monday evening experience on the program was entirely new. The South Putnam volleyball team fell to Rockville Monday in three sets, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-23. Kelly Hayden collected 16 points and three kills, with Mallory Cash adding eight kills. Janet Crafton had two blocks and 12 assists, with Carey Tanner and Leanna Masters adding five kills each...

EMINENCE -- The Cloverdale volleyball team moved to 19-1 on the season with a four set win over Eminence Wednesday. The Clovers won the match 25-17, 25-15, 23-25 and 25-15. Bradanne Toney paced the Clovers with 30 kills, six blocks, 13 digs and four points, with Paige Gruener adding 10 digs, five kills and six points. BROWNSBURG -- When the boys' soccer teams from Greencastle and Cascade got together at the Bethesda Christian Class A Sectional, it must have seemed like déjà vu. The two teams tangled in the regular season final with Greencastle coming out on top after going to penalty kicks. The same scenario presented itself Wednesday as the two squads battled to a 1-all tie, with the Tiger Cubs coming out on top after edging the Cadets 4-2 in penalty kicks...

Beaming from the moment she set foot in Eli's Bookstore Wednesday morning to the second she left with a Starbucks coffee in hand, Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman was as impressed as she was proud of what is happening in downtown Greencastle. After all, in reality Skillman is the mother of the Stellar Communities program.
